Thomas Vermaelen wanted to leave, Barça said no

Thomas Vermaelen spent last season on loan at AS Roma in the Serie A, but returned to Barca in pre-season.
The Belgian defender, who has not featured for Barca this season, revealed that a number of clubs were interested in his services in the last transfer window, but the Catalan giants did not entertain any offers.
“Barcelona told me I could not leave no matter what,” Vermaelen told Derniere Heure, as translated by Marca.
“There was interest from several clubs but they would not listen to any offers and now I cannot even play in the B team, so it is difficult for me.
“It would be fantastic to play some minutes for Belgium and maybe that will change the situation for me at the club, or improve it.
“The Coach (Ernesto Valverde) is happy with my performances in training and I understand that at Barcelona, you need strength in depth – four or five central defenders.
“I may get my chance through injuries or suspensions, so I must be ready.”
