Xavi Hernandez has given an interview to Mundo Leo in which he talks about former team-mate Lionel Messi, claiming that the Argentine international “gets pissed off” if he’s not involved in the play.
Former Barcelona legend believes that Lionel Messi must have the ball as much as possible for Argentina to be a dangerous side at the 2018 World Cup.
“Barcelona and the Argentine team can’t afford to spend even ten minutes of the match with Leo not getting possession of the ball,” Xavi told El Mundo.
he said. “He has to be wherever it goes and if he’s not there, bring it to him. Messi is the one that will make things happen for the team.”
Xavi also spoke about their chances to lift the trophy.
“I see them being very capable of winning a World Cup next year,”
he continued. “It is true that now they are in a difficult situation, which is the qualification in South America.
“But we will all agree that if they qualify for the World Cup, they must be one of the favourites based on their players and now because I think they have the right coach.
“Everyone appreciates Sampaoli in Spain.”
Argentina are fifth, and have only scored 16 goals in as many games in World Cup 2018 qualifiers. They are currently in the playoff spot, with the marked possibility that they won’t make it.
