Slovenian referee Damir Skomina has been selected to referee the Barcelona’s opening Champion’s League tie against Juventus. The 41-year-old previously oversaw Barcelona’s 1-2 win away to Borussia Mönchengladbach in the group stage of last year’s competition, with goals from Arda Turan and Gerard Piqué sealing the win for the La Liga side on that occasion, and Juventus’ 1-2 win against Manchester City in the 2015-16 campaign.
Skomina, born August 5, 1976 and an international since 2003, took charge of the Blaugrana last season in the win at Borussia Monchengladbach and also in 2015/16, in Manchester against City.
He refereed the 2012 European Super Cup, in which Atletico beat Chelsea 4-1 and, among other tournaments, has taken part in the Beijing Olympic Games, the European Championships of 2012 and 2016 and the Confederations Cup in 2017.
