Pep Guardiola has discussed his club’s rumoured interest in FC Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi following reports that the Citizens made a mega offer for the forward.
Spanish publication Marca recently reported that, prior to his contract renewal with the Blaugrana, City offered the Argentine a huge contract to join them at the end of the season.
Before signing a new contract two weeks ago, Messi was on the verge of being able to discuss a deal with any other club in January, although it had also been reported that the Argentine had committed his future to the club in June already.
In a recent press conference, Guardiola was asked about the speculation that City had offered Messi a deal – rumours he quickly shut down.
“Lionel Messi has signed a contract one week ago. This was never going to happen; Messi started his career there and he’s going to finish it there,” he said, according to The Irish Times.”
“If he wanted to leave, he wouldn’t have signed the contract.”
“It’s not true.”
