On Tuesday 18 April was the date when FC Barcelona played Getafe in the first leg of the Copa del Rey semi-finals. In the 28th minute Messi left the crowd speechless with a goal reminiscent of his compatriot Diego Arando Maradona.
It was a spectacular goal which was seen around the world and is still being spoken about a decade on. They won 5-2 on the night, but then lost 4-0 in the second leg (6-5 on aggregate).
It was a fantastic season from a personal perspective for Messi because, as well as this individual goal, he scored a hat-trick at the Bernabeu in a 3-3 draw with Real Madrid to begin his path to superstardom.
