Former Barcelona forward Neymar has called Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu a “joke” as the ongoing feud between the two turns uglier by the day.
The Brazil international forced through a surprise exit from Camp Nou in the summer when his £198m release clause was triggered by Paris Saint-Germain. Bartomeu has since taken a number of digs at Neymar and recently suggested that Barca put far too much trust in the player and his agent father.
Bartomeu, in an interview to Catalan newspapers Mundo Deportivo and Sport, claiming that Barcelona would be better off
Bartomeu said: “He did not act with the right decorum. I do not know (why he left). You should ask him. He did not tell us.
“For money? To lead a sporting project? Here, he was at the best club in the world surrounded by many of the best players in the world and without a doubt, that is Messi.”
“But I do not know why he did not explain it to us. He paid the clause and left.”
Brazilian TV channel Esporte Interativo posted the quote on its Instagram account and Neymar was quick to respond, posting: “This president is a joke,” he wrote, with the addition of four laughing emojis.
