The Argentine is rumoured to be frustrated with the way the Spanish giants are currently being run, amid reports linking him with a move to Manchester City.
According to The Sun, the 30-year-old superstar is “seriously considering his future” after his club failed to attract many of their transfer targets in the latest window.
The fact that Messi, whose current deal at the club expires at the end of this season, has not yet signed his contract extension, which was announced by Barca earlier this year, raises further questions about his desire to stay at the Camp Nou.
Barcelona director Albert Soler has made an effort to ensure supporters of the club that the forward will soon put pen to paper, despite what is being are reported.
“When we say soon, it means soon. I want to send this message to those who may be worried,” he said, as quoted by The Sun.
“Announcement comes after the agreement is signed off by both parties. The only thing missing is this formal act.
“There is no problem where Messi is concerned. There is no problem, I insist, it will happen soon. It depends on the agendas, from here I want to send a message of tranquility to the Barcelona members. Please be calm.”
