In an interview with Cuatro, José Antonio Iniesta, the father of Barcelona midfielder Andres, has this afternoon assured that they need not worry about his son departing the club next summer after Andrés’ response to the press on Tuesday, when he denied that he had agreed a new contract with Barcelona. The new contract at the Camp Nou will not be a problem for the World Cup winner.
“I speak with my son every single day and he never says the opposite of the truth and I don’t think (the contract renewal) will be a problem,” he explained.
“Andres won’t compete for another elite team against Barcelona,” he said.
José Antonio added that “with the way he looks after himself, he could play an important role at Barça for another two or three years”.
Iniesta, who joined Barcelona’s youth academy in 1996, has spent his entire professional career at the Camp Nou after joining the club’s La Masia youth academy from Albacete, and has made 632 official first-team appearances.
