Former Barcelona director of football Raul Sanllehi has joined Arsenal, where he will serve as the head of football relations.
Sanllehi will start in February after 14 years at Barcelona, working alongside manager Arsene Wenger in a further sign of restructuring at the Premier League side.
The Spaniard joined Barcelona in 2003 and was credited with assembling the Barcelona side which won the treble in 2009 under Pep Guardiola.
Catalan newspaper Sport say of Sanllehi: ‘It’s impossible to understand the current footballing framework of Barca without the figure of Raul Sanllehi, director of the club’s football arm and one of the fundamental people in making Neymar a Barca player.
‘During his reign, Sanllehi has become a key pillar, not only in negotiating contracts with players but also in ensuring that Barca are one of the most respected clubs in the corridors of power at Uefa and one of the pillars of the European Club Association, to whose foundation, in 2008, he contributed.’
