Ousmane Dembele confirmed he held a meeting with Paris Saint-Germain’s president before joining Barcelona this summer.
The 20-year-old joined the Blaugrana for an initial €105m from Borussia Dortmund last summer but he has revealed the Blaugrana were not his only option.
“I had a strong meeting with Nasser (Al-Khelaifi, PSG president), he’s a fantastic president and it went really well,” Dembele told Onze Mundial, in quotes carried by ESPN.
“”What struck me about him is that he is very humble, he’s calm and I had never seen that. Honestly, he’s a good guy.
“In 2016, I had a meeting with Barcelona. I had told them: ‘For next season it’s not possible, but the next time you contact me, I’ll come,’ and that is what happened.
“In 2017, what did you want me to do? That I say ‘no’ to Barcelona a second time? That was impossible for me.
“I’m at a crazy club here, alongside the best. Every year, the club’s in the Champions League semi-finals or the final.
“I would like to see how the people who criticised me would have reacted if they had been in my position.”
