FC Barcelona and midfielder Carles Aleñá came to an agreement Tuesday whereby the 19-year-old will extend his deal with the club for a further three years. The deal also calls for a two-year club option should Aleñá, who currently plays for the reserves, end up making the first team. The buyout clause has been set at €75m.
Club President Josep Maria Bartomeu was on hand for the signing, which took place at the Club’s offices at Camp Nou. The club will have certainly learned after Paris Saint Germain triggered Neymar Jr’s supposedly crazy release clause.
There have been no suggestions as to whether the player will be sent out on loan at any point but that is a possibility.
Aleñá’s extension means the Club can continue to count on one of their homegrown players. Aleñá, who began playing in the Barça youth academy, La Masia, at the age of seven, rose steadily through the lower categories and eventually made his first team debut under the orders of then-manager Luis Enrique on November 30th, 2016 at Hércules in the first leg of the Copa del Rey last 32. He also scored his first goal that day, giving Barça a 1–1 draw on the road and went on to make three substitute appearances in LaLiga.
Aleñá said “I’m happy for myself and my family, it’s one of the happiest days of my life.”
“Renewing the deal with the club of my dreams, where I’ve been all my life, makes this a very exciting day for me,”
He continued. “I want to give everything to repay the confidence that the club has shown in me.”
“It’s really quite something that I’ve been here for 13 years, coming up through the ranks at such a demanding club,”
Aleñá added. “But this is just the beginning, my dream is to become a regular and help the team win titles, so now I have to work hard and give my all for the best club in the world.”
