Carles Alena of Barcelona underwent an interview with “SPORT” concerning the renewal of his contract, and learning from Lionel Messi, and simply his experience in Barcelona’s club. The questions advanced by “Sport” are as the following:
Which is better: To stay in the B team or go on loan?
Going on loan wasn’t an option for me, never. But, if I had to transfer momentarily, I would do so. Yet, I prefer to stay and the club wanted me to stay, starting from the promotion instance we both knew that Segunda was a better option.
Your position on the pitch is quite similar to Messi’s, any thoughts on that?
The following might seem a bit exaggerated, but I try my best to learn lots of things from Leo. I inspect on what he does, sometimes I even copy him. I do watch closely what how he positions himself on the pitch, and then I play the imitation game, a possible thing indeed.
Is Messi your “All time” preference?
Absolutely, as I grew out I had plenty of football idols. For instance, when I was young, I used to like Deco a lot. Then as I started to mature on the pitch I went through phases from Xavi, Iniesta, and then Leo Messi. My preferences were mostly boxed within the B team.
You were under the supervision of Luis Enrique, what are your expectations of Valverde?
I was actually on preseason during Luis Enrique’s era. Ernest, also, helped a lot. The help ranged from golden advices on how to make the best of my time on the pitch. His vision is completely different from that of Enrique’s but you try to listen and make his vision happen.
On many occasions, you’ve said that you need to grow in the B team and that you’re not in a hurry to join the first team. Do you think the wait would be long?
For starters I’ve got three whole seasons, which is the important thing to focus on. I have no single idea about my buyout clause. I’ll be spending three years three years with the B team, I could move to the first team, go on loan and so on and so forth… There plenty of options on the wait, and that are why I don’t like to think ahead of this year, it’s sort of to think in the moment. Coaches watch constantly, so what truly matters is to bring it on and be satisfied with the performance. I’m extremely happy to be renewed at the B team, and I would love to stay here as many years as possible.
